In a typical DNS deployment, a DNS server hosts and serves the data for a domain; when a client requests resolution of the domain name, DNS returns the single server’s IP address. However, DNS does not check for network outages or status, and so always returns the same set of IP addresses for a domain even if networks are down or inaccessible or slow.

Services like Mail, Web, or other critical services that serve numerous incoming requests are often important to enterprises operations and can cause major issues should they fail. These services can be sometimes unavailable to external requests due to either link failure or slow response.

Q-Balancer has the ability to control these hosted services by handling company's DNS service. Q-Balancer provides a range of sophisticated load-balancing algorithms that are much more effective and accurate than basic DNS load balancing, and with all of them it checks server status to avoid forwarding requests to inaccessible servers.

Its algorithms are able to distribute incoming traffic load on all available WAN links by directing external requests to internal hosts via multiple available WAN links. The internal host appears to be a different IP address at different times based on the selected load-balancing algorithm. This accelerates the delivery to incoming traffic by making adjustments to the DNS replies when an external request arise.
